A Private In-Law Get Away… Or An Oasis for Visiting Friends
Our clients had acquired an existing home originally built in the late 1950’s, with the mindset of improving the home to make it better fit the needs of their family. Perfect lot, loved the style of the home, and great location… Problem? To fit the families’ needs, we needed to attach a dedicated ’self sufficient’ in-law suite complete with kitchenette, full bath, laundry facilities, an office, and separate living area… all able to be made private to the rest of the home. In short, we needed to create a retreat of sorts for visiting friends & relatives. Our clients needed a careful approach to increasing the square footage to a home that had already been added onto in two previous projects completed several years prior to purchase.
With the help from York Residential Design, a two story addition was designed that preserved not only the architectural style of the home, but actually helped to visually balance the home’s exterior as well. The ‘In-law’ apartment encompasses the 1st floor of the addition, with the second floor providing an addtional bathroom and two adjacent bedrooms that share access to it. Additional laundry facilities were made possible on the second floor as well, along with a common area to serve as an office & library.
